I suppose it is related...have you any views or opinions about company organizational charts?

Works of fiction!

Not just collaboration by email either. I applied Social Network Analysis (SNA) technology to a client's spreadsheets once and found an even more dense, spagetti like network of edits, saves, sends and views. Scary stuff.

I can think of icons more appropriate than smily faces for those chart. I honestly think even the best wikis are such crap right now that they are just as capable of making the users life hell as email.

We had a really nice organisation chart application built for our intranet; dynamically updated every time someone filled in the name of their line manager on their personal details page.

It really ought to have worked, but even in an organisation of only 1300 people it's proving difficult to get people to own their own data. 'top' management go pale if you try to sell them a 'facebook' based concept.

I'm not with Jevon here. There are some wikis that are useable.

But this diagram: on the wikinomics site there is a comment that it has been re-drawn with frownies on the e-mail side. Anybody seen this?

A cool diagram. I've been reading Luis's Blog http://www.elsua.net where he is trying to eliminate work e-mails. :-)
