iPhone

Yep I bought one last night and here are a few first thoughts:

1. It is gorgeous - even the packaging is a delight.

2. Signing up for O2 is a doddle through iTunes.

3. It's my first video iPod and the screen is truly amazing.

4. The interface is so nice and wifi so easy that I am even using at around the house instead of my laptop

5. The camera has better colour than my N73 even if lower res and at least it doesn't take half an hour for the camera to warm up!.

6. Loading photos is bliss as iPhoto syncs as soon as you dock the phone.

7. It knows that my home number is used by both my wife and I so when I get a call it says it is from Penny OR Euan - neat.

9. I have had 3G for a year and the absence of it really doesn't feel bad - partly because the interface for things like mail is soooo much better to use.

10. Yes I had to pay for the phone and we are used to getting them bundled but it definitely feels worth the money and I reckon the data plan from O2 will work out cheaper than what I was paying with Three.

Good to know. I had one of them in my hands and got to play with it on Monday and am starting to consider the possibility that this is a usable gadget after all. What remains still critical for me is the battery lifetime and the local GSM service provider tariffs.

Well... if it's so smart it should know who's this Euan living with your wife. ;->

Euan, your recommendation is tempting me, but I can't really justify having just recently updated my mobile. Geoff Jones told me he thought it was quite a flawed model, but has gone out and bought one too. Maybe I will wait and buy the updated version.

I got one last night having targeted Streatham as the place least likely to have a queue. I have to say I love it much more than I thought I would. I was worried about the size and weight comapred to the touch, but it feels fine, and about no 3G, but I used it on Edge this morning and it was not noticeably slower.

Wow! I can barely let go of it for a second. For the first time ever I have live IMAP connection to my work email (not just gmail etc), plus my calendars, plus a year's worth of photos, music and all my contacts and bookmarks. Amazing!

Insanely jealous 'cos I live in Spain and we won't see it for a while. But...I love my iTouch + N95 so...

Fantastic. Not convinced about Internet over Edge yet, but I suspect that O2 haven't made it available where I am just yet as I'm getting nada. Can't find any reliable data about their roll out schedule either.

Will try it in the big smoke that is Manchester tomorrow.

Apart from that absolutely loving it...

You get a little blue rectangle next to the o2-uk at the top of the screen if you are getting Edge

Yep, in Manchester it is working like a champ. Quite impressed with the speed of it too.
