Some Portuguese students have set out to map every single internet user in a month through a viral campaign and you can help them by clicking here.
Personaly I am sceptical for two reasons 1) Lots of people are wary of giving out their personal data on the web and 2) How will the students know they have achieved their goal?
But hey ... if we all help ...
I'm also skeptical because... even though she rocks, my 80-year-old internet-using Grandma will probably not manage to understand what to do with that website. And will normal non-2.0 internet-using people bother?

This 'tell three friends, and each of them tells three friends' business assumes that no-one will be contacted twice, which is plainly going to be untrue after about three iterations. And even if it works as described a) the servers wouldn't be able to handle the load (exponential increases) and/or b) most people will ignore it through inertia or, as you've said, a reluctance to post personal data. I for one have no intention of announcing where I live, for obvious security reasons.

Initially I thought is was a cool albeit useless app, so why not give them 2 minutes of attention and sign up... I back out when I found out they want a birth date and email... not only that, but email confirmation to sign up. Looking at the privacy policies did not really put me at ease, so I just canceled the entry.
