Referring to a post by Dave Snowden about the wisdom, or otherwise, of crowds George Siemens nails it
For groups to be of value, each individual must be an individual. Aggregation (or the forming of groups) is valuable when we bring together unique people. If we bring together like-minded people, we may end up with the joys of group-think.
I hate to tell you this, but the reserach evidence is that group think happens no matter what the initial diversity UNLESS you ritualise dissent and force conflict ......
