Bye bye act-km
I have been a member of the act-km mailing list on Yahoo for a few years now and though it has been of variable use to me I kept involved for the odd interesting post.
Since the beginning I have been bothered by the fact that they moderate the forum and have expressed frustration that the flow of conversation is often interrupted by having to wait for someone in Australia to OK our posts.
There has also been a debate recently about whether it is good netiquette to include threads in our replies or to snip them. I personally favour keeping the thread there as it makes conversations easier to track and bandwidth and disk space are cheap these days.
I just replied to a thread, with the thread included in the post, with a one line response and had my reply bounced by the moderator because it was too long!!
I'm off ....
What is it about wanting to command and control knowledge? I bet these aren't people who use social media in their organisations...

Thats a pity - I agree that moderated lists are a bad idea, but ACT went over to it after a period where one or two people abused the system. I think the one line posting must have been a slip of the mouse as I have had longer responses with the material attached accepted. I'd let them make the odd mistake like that but give them a second chance.

That's a bit anti-social :) Methinks this marriage has been wavering for a time for such a small provocation to tip the scales... I've belonged to unmoderated lists, and the nonsense spam that gets through, not to mention trollish rants, are pleasingly absent from ACT-KM where at least we can have decent conversations, even if delayed. Why not talk this out on the list? Hope to see you back.

You are right Patrick I have been thinking of going for some time and Niall put his finger on why. Not only do I have the moderator telling me to snip posts but I now have you telling me how to leave the group!

Euan, I will miss your comments. You have good insights and a lot of wisdom to share. I've been "moderated" on that list, too, and while it did upset me at the time, I have since warmed to the kindness and sincerity of the moderators, and rather like that they keep the sharpness of the retorts a little more civil and try to maintain a cordial environment. Having it post immediately is less like a conversation, true...but the results are more likely to be read-worthy. I hope you'll change your mind. Best wishes.

I'd be interested to know which other lists might be about to fill the void created by leaving ACT-KM, or is that the role of this blog perhaps?

Hardly a void Andy
;-)
Amongst the welter of online spaces I inhabit it just became less useful.
