Knowledge Management
It is remarkable how long the term "Knowledge Management" has lasted given that it is such nonsense.
You can increase the likelihood of connections, you can increase the chances that such connections will result in one person helping another and you can help create a culture in which helping each other is a good thing but you sure as hell can't manage knowledge.
Anyone who tries to convince you otherwise should be immediately suspected as a charlatan.
hear, hear !

Right on! I try to introduce the km guys to social software, blogs, wikis, rss, etc., but these dudes are soooooo anal retentive and fixated on capturing only certain types of tacit and explicit knowledge that they wind up with crap that nobody uses. BTW I read your interview with Sandra Higgison from Inside Knowledge - it's great to see you challenging the status quo and really making a postivie difference.

Glad you enjoyed the article Jim and keep banging the drum!

Know what you mean Euan.
I still use the term as a "placeholder" for my knowledge modelling stuff - but management is devalued to a dirty word, by the "control" & pulling levers metaphors for management.
We just need better metaphors IMHO.

(Loved the IK article) I am leading the implementation of a discussion forum tool at our company our was wondering what additional advice you might have to offer on best practices for rollout, adoption, usage, etc.
RE: "KM" so what title would you prefer to have on your business cards?

I reckon "Social Computing" does nicely Jeff.

Euan, shame on you unveiling yourself as a charlatan so publicly! Is this why you no longer wish to be known as Head of Knowledge Management at the BBC? How fashions change ;o)

Hardly Claire - you know I was never keen on the title and indeed for these very reasons.
