I guess, looking back, Tom Peters had more impact on my approach to management than I recognized at the time. Reading Thriving on Chaos many moons ago really prepared me for the madness that is now work and has meant I was much better able to thrive and survive.
I have just spent a very productive hour or so poring over his blog (and believe me there are few blogs that I would spend that long reading). The thing I love is that it is a real blog, with comments and a blogroll and RSS and everything ..... he even replies to comments too.
I've added him to my blogroll.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get to meet him. The Cluetrain Manifesto had a similar impact on me as Thriving on Chaos. and it only took six months of blogging to get to know and meet its writers, Doc, Chris and David.
Let's see .....
I met him briefly (e.g. he signed my copy of his book and he pretended to be vaguely interested in my for about 30 seconds) after sitting listening to him for a day back in April. How much of him was his stage persona and how much was 'the real thing' was hard to tell. There's definitely a greasepaint thing going on when he's in front of a paying audience.
Fascinating and awe inspiring nonetheless.
