Spend your light carefully

Time is fleeting; our days are short and our light even shorter. Bandied about like a bag in the wind, it's difficult to find our way, and easy to think that we should have one. But we aren't the masters of our destiny: we install fire alarms and paint windowsills and put up sensible siding, but ultimately we don't control our fates. An invisible wind, an unseen light, transmutes the fabric of our days, filling them to overflowing with beauty but not with time. Considering how my light is spent, I dare not waste it, for once it's gone, our mortal dance will be relegated to the dustheap of Time.

Oh what a relief it is ....

.... to back to reading logs via my blogrolling list rather than an aggregator. I have stuck with NetNewsire longer than previously this time but I just can't get used to reading blog posts out of context. It is like reducing conversations with friends to soundbites and the complete antithesis of what I love about blogging.

Tower of babble?

Radio Vox Populi is either your wildest dream or your worst nightmare - not sure yet!

Getting things into perspective

The other thing mountains are good for is re-gaining a sense of perspective.

The first walk I did this week was the Riggindale Horseshoe - a seven mile route which begins with a wonderful ascent along a satsifying ridge to the top of High Street via Long Stile.

The first image is of the flank of Long Stile. My ascent was along the left hand ridge and the photo was taken from the other side of the horseshoe on the way down.

In the lower photo, taken from earlier on the descent, the expanded insert is of two guys (the two small dots) walking the same route.
